Tangerang, 7 December 2025 - Every weekend, shopping malls, tourist attractions, and even the streets of the capital city are always filled with people who choose to spend their time traveling. This phenomenon seems to contradict the need for rest after five full days of work or activities. So, why do many people prefer to leave their homes rather than sit back and relax at home to recharge their energy?
In my opinion, weekends are used as an escape from the monotonous routine of every weekday. So, traveling on weekends provides a new atmosphere and a different experience that can refresh the mind in a way that is not always possible at home. For me, and perhaps for all workers and people, weekdays are filled with pressure, deadlines, back-to-back meetings, and high mobility. Therefore, the weekend is a golden opportunity to “change the atmosphere” so that the mind can relax again. In addition, the culture of hanging out, the need to socialize, and social media trends encourage people to try new activities every weekend.
However, there are also economic and technological reasons that make staying at home less appealing. Many people consider short weekend getaways as a form of self-reward. Social media reinforces this urge by showcasing various trends, new places, and recommendations for activities that spark curiosity. As a result, “lying around all day” often loses out to the desire to explore something new.
Although it may seem exhausting, some people actually feel more satisfied and re-energized after traveling. However, there are also many who choose to rest completely at home. Ultimately, each individual's weekend choices reflect different recovery needs, whether it's seeking tranquility at home or refreshing oneself through experiences outside.
